Lookin' down the coast I can't see the end
Rain coming down
Tide rolling in

Rising from the sea at land's end
And through the eyes of the California condor there

And sittin' at Nepenthe looking down at the coast
Partington Cove where eagles coast
And just off the rocks, floatin' out in the bay
Sea otters play in the cool ocean spray
The California gray whales playin' there
Haven't got a care

This must be Monterey
I see firelights round the bay
The indians live this way
I must go ashore and find out if this soil is good enough to till
We'll take our treasures, trinkets too
Go ashore and inland too
The King wants it that way
We can rule the seas and spread the word of God to every heathen land
For one long year we've been to sea
I miss my wife and family
My mistress is the sea
Oh it's been so long since I have had a woman's breast to lay my head on

And lookin' down the Little Sur from Hurricane Point
Clouds blowin' by, where eagles fly
And flowin' so hard, waves turnin' white
Blowin' all day and blowin' all night
And through the eyes of the hawk you can see it there
Mountain lions lair

And heading for the Big Sur Valley at last
Racing fast across lighthouse flats
And just at the rock there came such a sight
The lighthouse keeper's house, a lighthouse light
The California grizzly once was there
Does anybody care?

We'll fill our holds with native gold
And then we'll save their heathen souls
The Queen wants it that way
