Lyrics
In the fields in the forest
In the streams all around the village
Men have fought men have died
Men are lost to history we envisage
The land near Ypre is pulverized
By the constant firing of artillery
This line hasn't moved for years of the war
But that has to change this fight there is no revelry
The Germans hold the high ground at many ridges
Not least of which at Passchendaele
The British Australians and Candiens
Will muster up the men and guns to not fail
The plan early on is dig underneath
The enemy lines place explosives
At various points all across the front
And hope to God they don't take notice
They fire off well placed artillery
Firing millions of shells
It changes the face of the battlefield
Into scenes reminiscent of hell
By now that's defined as the Battle of The Somme
But this battle will soon earn its place
As the allies advance towards the German line
The mines they explode and erase
In Flanders Fields
You can look out and see nothing
And though the flowers now grow
It only covers up the destruction
These fields where many men fall
Drowning in the mud they fell
This ridge where the flowers now grow
They fought call it Passchendaele
Passchendaele
The German lines are left in disarray
After the mines they explode
Many men start to run away in droves
An unnerving site for those who would know
Many of their men were simply vaporized
By the blast displacing all the earth
But soon they would recover solidify the lines
And for their enemy make it hurt
Now all you see where the massive craters lay
Is water or a barrier of trees
But back then in battle what you saw is ground
That's devoid of any sound cept for screams
And the screams are drowned out by artillery
That hits damaging the drainage system
The rain starts to fall the most in hundreds of years
Leaving the battlefield a swamp so just listen
Artillery craters are connected filled with water
Their treading in mud don't you slip
Because if you do you are never seen again
Drowning this reality it hits
Trenches knee deep in water some waist deep
Are really just becoming a grave
Though their pushing the lines slowly inch by inch
Suffering is only common place
In Flanders Fields
You can look out and see nothing
And though the flowers now grow
It only covers up the destruction
These fields where many men fall
Drowning in the mud they fell
This ridge where the flowers now grow
They fought call it Passchendaele
Passchendaele
As the rain fell as the rain fell
It just made life down here hard to tell
Moving through bodies moving through water
All of this amidst the thundering of shells
What is that I'm touching another lifeless soul
Or maybe its just mud it's hard to really tell
Your rifle won't fire your boots are just glued
Down to the earth but you can't stop you can't fail
In the fields in the fields
Of Flanders, no one knows
Life is shattered life is taken
In the fields devoid of hope
In the fields in the fields
Of Flanders, no one knows
Life is shattered life is taken
In the fields devoid of hope
As the rain fell as the rain fell
They kept pushing up the ridge turning pale
Resistance is fierce but its crumbling
Because the Germans lost more than they can tell
Millions of men on both sides are lost fighting
For tracts of land where beauty once held
But now all it is, is a desolate waste
Strategic value is the reason they will sell
In the fields in the fields
Of Flanders, no one knows
Life is shattered life is taken
In the fields devoid of hope
In the fields in the fields
Of Flanders, no one knows
Life is shattered life is taken
In the fields devoid of hope
When the allied soldiers reached the top of the ridge
The Germans were gone there was nothing
Nothing was there except ruins pulverized
By artillery it was really something
This battle would signify the end for the Germans
Simply due to numbers of their dead
The allies also lost countless numbers of men
At Passchendaele they are left to rest
Rest
Rest
Rest
