Lyrics
I awoke again, hungry and cold; in filthy rags, afraid and so alone
As I look around me, how did I get here?
Things are not too familiar, as I swallowed down my fear
But this famine, caught everyone by surprise; it was too late, no one realized
Here comes my new master; time to feed these pigs again
I once was a wealthy man; how did I come to this end?

I remembered, not so long ago, I was living in my Father's home
I wanted for nothing, had plenty to eat, I wore the finest clothing, shoes for my feet
But I was longing, empty inside, I was restless, I was not satisfied
My inheritance was waiting, but I wanted it all today
I wanted to see the world, let the chips fall where they may

So, my Father divided up his wealth; I said goodbye, thinking only of myself
I traveled far and wide; saw places I had only dreamed, the finest inns did I abide
I sought pleasure, parties and wine, I was reckless, but it did not satisfy
I lived for the moment, the end I could not see
If I only could have known, what the future held for me

I was broken; it didn't take very long; I was wasted, so far from my home
I had no money left, no place to sleep; my so-called friends had all forsaken me
In desperation, I came to myself; the frustration, I had nothing left
I thought about my Father, his servants have food to spare
If I could only make it home, my sin is more than I can bear

So, I got to my feet, my heart pounding inside
At home, will I be welcome, or will I be cast aside?
Now, I'm looking way down the road, what is this I see?
Could it be my loving Father, running out to meet me?

I'm coming home; Father's arms are open wide
I'm coming home; tears of joy are in his eyes
I'm coming home; I can see my Father running
I'm coming home; I see the feast they are preparing
My filthy rags are gone [I've got the family robe on]; I'm not a servant, but a son
My sins have been forgiven; I'm coming home
Saints, rejoice with me this day, I've come back home
