Biography
A side project featuring members of the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Tipsy, and Swervedriver, San Francisco's the ImaJinary Friends were a short-lived exercise marrying trippy psychedelic rock, synthesizer experiments, and ambient sounds into a freaky, sometimes unsettling blend. The original lineup of the group consisted of Jeremy Davies on vocals, sampler, and synthesizer; Tim Digulla on electronics and tape manipulation; Rick Maymi on guitar, bass, drums, and electronics; Travis Threlkel on guitar and sampler; and former Swervedriver drummer Graham Bonnar on percussion. This lineup recorded the group's sole full-length album, 1994's Lunchtime in Infinity, for Greg Shaw's estimable Bomp! label. After Bonnar left, the rest of the group recorded a few new tracks at home in 1995. Unfortunately, these new songs remained unreleased until 2000, when Pete Sonic Boom Kember of Spectrum agreed to put them out on his own Space Ace Recordings label. The resulting release was a split CD by the ImaJinary Friends and Spectrum called Interface/Come Out to Play. ~ Stewart Mason, Rovi
