Hammond Scott
Biography
Along with his brother Nauman, producer Hammond Scott was the founder of the Black Top Records label. Natives of Alexandria, Louisiana, the Scott brothers' love of music began when they were children listening to late-night blues and soul broadcasts over station WLAC out of Nashville. They formed Black Top in 1981, with Anson Funderburgh's Talk to You by Hand becoming the label's inaugural release. Subsequently helming material for the Neville Brothers, Buckwheat Zydeco, Snooks Eaglin, Ronnie Earl and Solomon Burke, Scott produced and released sounds ranging from Texas blues to Memphis soul to southwestern Louisiana zydeco in the years to follow, gradually assembling one of America's finest collections of traditional roots music. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
