Biography
In November of 1955, George Goldner signed this pop-rock quintet that featured a honking sax and a driving beat in its sound, evidently hoping to find another Bill Haley His Comets. Unfortunately, the Five Encores never caught the public's fancy, despite a one good, catchy number (One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer) that may have been a little too adult for teens to embrace, and another (Readin', Ritin', 'Rithmetic Rock 'n Roll) that was too generic. They disappeared from Rama Records and the world of recorded music after the singles in early 1956, and never even made it into the Alan Freed jukebox movie for which they'd been announced. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
