Biography
The Butterflies (spelled "Butterflys" in some sources) were a girl group signed to the Red Bird label, featured in 1964 with a version of the Jeff Barry/Ellie Greenwich song Good Night Baby (on which Greenwich sang backup). Originally formed as the Buttons, the group included lead Paulette Holland, along with Carmen Santiago, Myrna Giraud, and Mary Thomas (the latter two had previously been in the Crystals). After their debut with "Good Night Baby," the next Butterflies record was a version of I Wonder, which featured a Barry/Greenwich/Spector writing credit. That single never got any higher on the charts than number 117, and it was their last as the Butterflies, since Red Bird continued to cultivate a tougher girl group sound. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
