Biography
An active orchestrator, arranger, and bandleader, Tim Davies has compiled a long list of accomplishments. He has worked with stars such as singer Amy Winehouse and rappers Nas and Kendrick Lamar and also found success orchestrating and conducting music for popular video games like The Last of Us and Batman: Arkham City and for films such as Ant-Man and Frozen II. An accomplished drummer, Davies founded two big bands, both called the Tim Davies Big Band: one in Australia shortly before emigrating to the U.S. and the other in Los Angeles.

Davies was born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, in 1972. His dreams of leading a big band came after listening to a recording of the Daly-Wilson Big Band when he was 12. Davies attended the Queensland Conservatory, where he studied composition and percussion. He went on to the Elder Conservatorium and the University of Melbourne for further studies in composition. Among his influential teachers were Brenton Broadstock and Alan Slater. After earning his master's degree in 1997, Davies worked as a university lecturer, and the following year, he fulfilled an early life goal by founding the first of his Tim Davies Big Bands in Melbourne. This group was short-lived as Davies moved to Los Angeles later in 1998, where he began working as an arranger and orchestrator. A newly constructed Tim Davies Big Band was founded shortly thereafter and has been based in Los Angeles since 2000.

Success came quickly for Davies in Los Angeles, as his first film credits appeared in 2001. 2002 was a breakthrough year for him, as his big band issued its debut album, Epic, and he was an orchestrator for Marco Beltrami's score to The First $20 Million Is Always the Hardest. Since then, he has been prolific as an orchestrator, arranger, conductor, and composer for films, television series, and video games, where he has become a leader in the industry. His first venture into video game music came in 2005 as the conductor and orchestrator for SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs, and he has since worked on major releases such as God of War II, two games in the Batman series, and the two main releases in the Infamous franchise. Other projects Davies has worked on include conducting and orchestrating music for Frozen and Frozen II, Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp, and The Lego Movie 2.

In 2009, the Tim Davies Big Band issued its second album, Dialmentia, that included the song "Counting to Infinity," which garnered Davies a Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Composition. Beyond the visual media world, Davies has worked with leading artists such as Amy Winehouse, CeeLo Green, and Akon, among others. Davies arranged music and played drums for a 2014 concert celebrating the 20th anniversary of Nas' album Illmatic. Shortly after, he arranged music for a Kendrick Lamar performance of To Pimp a Butterfly with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center. Davies reassembled the Melbourne version of his big band, and together with the Los Angeles version, issued the album The Expensive Train Set in 2016, which garnered Davies another Grammy nomination. In the early 2020s, he served as the lead orchestrator for the series WandaVision, as well as the conductor and lead orchestrator for the video game Halo: Infinite and Bob's Burgers: The Movie. ~ Keith Finke, Rovi
