Axel Leon
from The Bronx, New York, NY
June 8, 1986 (age 37)
Biography
American emcee Axel Leon delivers dense bars and clever rhymes inspired by childhood heroes Jay-Z and Eminem. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in the Bronx, Leon moved to the United States at the age of one. He developed a love for hip-hop as a teenager, exposed to the culture on the streets where he could observe local rappers rhyming on the block with boomboxes. In addition to Jay-Z and Em, Leon honed his craft listening to Big Pun, Big L, Jadakiss, Canibus, and Ludacris. Soon, he began writing his own rhymes and performing as AX. He issued a handful of releases, but later decided to perform under his birth name. He gained exposure freestyling for Funkmaster Flex, recording with Jim Jones (notably on his track "Bando"), and working with Harlem emcee Smoke DZA. In 2016, he issued The Black Hole, the first showcase for his dizzying flow and moody atmospheric production. In 2017, he followed with Rich Port 2 -- which featured the single "100 to 1" -- and J.U.G.O. ~ Neil Z. Yeung, Rovi
