Biography
The Crustaceans have been together since 1994 surviving in a world where break ups are everyday happenings. After meeting through common acquaintances and living together for a few months. The Crustaceans played their first gig on March 1 1995 at the Orange & Brew on the University of Florida campus. Their diverse sound has been heard since then at the Hardback Cafe, Covered Dish, and High Note, as well as outdoor events like the Alachua Music Harvest. They have appeared in out of town venues and people have enjoyed Crustaceans in the punk rock clubs of Daytona Beach, Jacksonville, and Pensacola, even though their sound is definitely not punk rock. They list their influences as he Monkees, Metallica, Superchunk and Guided By Voices. All of the influences can be heard in their music at one point, but their music has an originality that is only theirs. They have the talent and the power within the band to incorporate almost any genre into a composition. With the members of the band swapping instruments in certain arrangements the audience is treated to a musical three ring circus. The usual line up consist of Samantha Jones on bass, Karl Bullock on guitar and Brian Sparks on the drums, but it's not surprising to find Samantha Jones on the drums, Brian Sparks having guitar duties and on the bass would be Karl Bullock. They also share the vocal spotlight which gives a marvelous flavor to their music. There is no way to know what the Crustaceans will include in their next show, but one thing is guaranteed they will get the audience out of their seats and grooving to the beat. ~ Larry Belanger, Rovi
