Biography
Sydney Devine is either one of Scotland's most enduring entertainers or a perpetuator of its cultural stereotypes. While his full Highland regalia outfit and extensive knowledge of traditional Scottish tunes were a phenomenon in the late '50s, his preference for watered-down versions of American country songs has made him Scotland's equivalent of Lawrence Welk and Pat Boone.

Still active in western Scotland three and a half decades after his debut performances in 1957, Devine continued to unleash recordings of his ultra-bland music. In 2001 he released a two-volume CD set, Line Dance Party, and a year later issued an album, Sydney's Dance Party, featuring such forgettable songs as Elvis Is a Long Time Gone, May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose, Elvira, and Macarena. ~ Craig Harris, Rovi
