Brown dishwater ripples
Echoed concentric circles
My mirror self distorts

Count the rings below my eyes
Years and years of compromise
The drain gurgles and chokes

This is the life
Chicago trapped under ice
I step outside, enveloped in silence
My grandma used to say,
this life's a grand parade: some march along,
Some watch it from the fence
I'd rather hear her lullaby again
Oh, memory is a bittersweet post script
