Drums. Drummer best knownn for his work with Red Norvo in the '40s, plus sessions with Woody Herman and Tommy Dorsey in '50s. Chapin begin playing piano and clarinet as a child, then left college at 18 to begin playing professionally on drums. He started with Norvo in 1943, following a string of jobs with various bands. Chapin's group was a regular Monday night attraction at Birdland from '54 to '56.
