Biography
Known by just her first name, sultry-voiced chanteuse Juliet Richardson's genre-straddling brand of ice cool electro-pop drew influences from acts as varied as My Bloody Valentine, Daft Punk, and Jeff Buckley. Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1980, she attended the Life Center Academy in Burlington, NJ before fronting synth pop outfit 1 Plus 1, whose divisive techno reworking of the Runaways' Cherry Bomb became a minor hit in the early noughties. Disenchanted with the sugary pop direction they were heading in, she shaved her head, performed in black instead of pink, and changed the band's name to MNQNN, whose shift to a more rock-based sound resulted in them being dropped by their label in 2003. A year later, she signed a solo deal with Virgin and teamed up with former Madonna drummer Steve Sydelink and in-demand electronic producer Stuart Price for her debut album, Random Order, which spawned two Billboard Hot Dance Club number ones, Avalon and Ride the Pain, on its release in 2005. Juliet last appeared on Do Something Love, a track on David Guetta's 2007 Poplife LP. ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi
