Biography
Aldo Cabral had success in the decades of 1930/1940 as a lyricist, having had Benedito Lacerda as his main partner in songs recorded by major interpreters like Sílvio Caldas, Francisco Alves, Carlos Galhardo, Orlando Silva, and Carmen Miranda. Also a revue author and radio man, his career began with the successful recording, in 1935, of the valse Boneca (with Lacerda) by Sílvio Caldas. Soon Carmen Miranda launched Pra Fazer Você Chorar (with Lacerda), and the next year Caldas recorded Teus Ciúmes (with Laci Martins). Having several other compositions recorded by artists like Sônia Carvalho, Carlos Galhardo, Sílvio Caldas, and Nuno Roland, Cabral had other hits in 1937 with the samba Amigo Leal (with Lacerda) recorded by Orlando Silva and the valse A Você (with Ataulfo Alves) recorded by Carlos Galhardo. The next year Francisco Alves recorded Carnaval Na Minha Terra (with Kid Pepe). Espelho do Destino, recorded by Orlando Silva in 1939, was another success, but his biggest one was the samba-exaltação Brasil (with Lacerda), recorded by Francisco Alves in duo with Dalva de Oliveira in the same year. In 1940 Francisco Alves had success with Despedida da Mangueira (with Lacerda) and, two years later, with Carnaval Da Minha Vida. Bom Dia (with Herivelto Martins) was recorded by Linda Batista and As Três Marias, while Isaurinha Garcia had her biggest one with Mensagem (with Cícero Nunes) in 1945. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
