Biography
The pairing of singers/rappers Ronald Gigolo Rafael Tejeda Santos and Jean La Exce Carlos Ferreira Suero, Gigolo y La Exce are a Latin duo who broke into the mainstream as part of the mid-2010s Latin trap movement. Expanding their sound in more melodic directions toward the end of the decade, the pair found hits in genres across the urbano umbrella, including the Bad Bunny-assisted "Sexto Sentido" and all-star "Rasta Barbie (Remix)."

Having become firm friends during their high school years, Puerto Rican-based rapper/singers Santos ("Gigolo") and Suero ("La Exce") formed Gigolo y La Exce for a local competition, Reggaetón con Flow, quickly demonstrating their creative chemistry and skills on the mike. Under the names Gigolo (from Tejeda Santos' previous duo Ronal Tassi Los Gigolos) and La Exce (short for "La Excelencia"), the duo made their recorded debut with 2015's "Nasty," a sexually charged Latin trap anthem that combined Gigolo's breathy, higher-pitched vocals with La Exce's nasal, deeper-voiced style. A Farruko feature on the "Nasty (Remix)" -- as well as a deal with Arcángel's Flow Factory -- granted the duo an initial burst of popularity as they moved through 2016 with further trap singles "FaceTime," "Pauta," and "Griselda." They found another high-profile remix with the Arcángel and Bryant Myers-featuring "Griselda (Remix)."

2017 marked the beginning of a shift toward more sensual and reggaeton-influenced styles. The duo opened the year with the melodic reggaeton of "Acura" and "Te Robo," both of which received remixes (the former with Jory and Miky Woodz, the latter with Arcángel and De La Ghetto). The pair found their biggest hit to date after crossing paths with upcoming superstar Bad Bunny: "Sexto Sentido," a conflicted, croon-heavy trap track that eventually garnered over 500 million streams online. After closing out the year with "Louis Vuitton," they rattled through 2018 and 2019 with a burst of singles and features, finding particular success with the 100 million streamed "Rasta Barbie" and its star-studded remix (Myke Towers, Farruko, Arcángel, El Alfa) remix. This became the first single from the duo's debut EP, Las Torres, but after a quick detour for the Justin Quiles-featuring hit "Sativa," the duo dropped the project in September 2020. In 2021, Gigolo y La Exce began the rollout for their debut album with "De la Mata," "Insegura" (with Arcángel), and "Chantaje" (with Jay Wheeler). ~ David Crone, Rovi
