Biography
With a warm, gentle voice suited for acoustic singer/songwriter material and kid-friendly folk songs as well as atmospheric dance tracks, Renee Stahl has made a career out of all of the above. After releasing her first solo album, the aptly titled Melancholy Pop, in 2002, she formed the children's music duo Renee Jeremy with Brad bassist Jeremy Toback. They issued their first album, It's a Big World!, in 2007. Her voice was featured on several EDM tracks by artists including Ronski Speed and Bogdan Vix beginning in the early 2010s. Credited to Renee Friends, her 2015 children's album, Simpatico, included appearances by Colin Hay, Toad the Wet Sprocket's Glen Phillips, and Maya Rudolph.

A native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, who is based in Los Angeles, Stahl made her solo debut with on Woem Music in 2002; Melancholy Pop included songs co-written with Kevin Hunter of Wire Train. A few years later, her song "Something Real" was featured on the soundtrack for the 2006 crime film The Dead Girl before it reappeared on her second solo LP, Hopeful. Romantic. It saw release by Big Helium Records in April 2007. Later that year, she and Jeremy Toback issued It's a Big World! (One Melody Records), a set of children's folk songs, under the name Renee Jeremy. The duo followed up with C'mon in 2009. A set of covers spanning the Monkees and R.E.M. called A Little Love and the holiday set Sunny Christmas both arrived in 2012.

In the early 2010s, Stahl also began a series of collaborations with EDM producer Ronski Speed, who featured her on tracks such as 2011's "Out of Control" and 2013's "Pink Skye." In 2014, she appeared on the single "Forever" by another producer/DJ, Bogdan Vix. Stahl returned to children's songwriting for the collaborative Renee Friends album Simpatico. With guests including childhood friend Molly Shannon, it arrived on One Melody in 2015. She followed it up in 2019 with Renee Friends' Kindred, which featured duets with, among others, Lisa Loeb, Ziggy Marley, and Ida's Elizabeth Mitchell. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
